Monthly Dues
LASPA’s monthly dues are listed below, based on rank. The amount is divided and paid bi-monthly.
The US Supreme Court ruled in Janus v. AFSCME on June 27, 2018 that unions could no longer collect mandatory “fair share” fees to cover the costs of collective bargaining. This means that you are not required to pay dues to a bargaining union in addition to your LASPA dues. HOWEVER, if you have CAPE insurance, you are required to retain ALADS or PPOA (whichever is your bargaining union) in addition to LASPA or you will be dropped from the insurance
Your dues include enrollment in PLEA, which is a supplemental insurance benefit that provides members with legal defense costs, including attorney fees, in the event that a criminal or civil case is brought against a member related to on-duty conduct. You can learn more about PLEA by clicking here: https://laspa.org/PLEA.
Should you wish to opt-out of this benefit, which LASPA strongly advises against, please send a formal request to: https://privera@laspa.org.
