Your benefit packets should be mailed out by the Department of Human Resources, the last two-weeks of September. Should you not receive one, please contact the Benefit Hotline at 888-822-0487. You MUST register with the benefit hotline, regardless of whether you are keeping the same insurance or changing plans. Additionally, you must register if you are waiving benefits, even if you waived them the previous year or for a period of time. If you fail to register that you are waiving your benefits, the county will choose one for you, which you will have to keep for the year.
The US Supreme Court ruled in Janus v. AFSCME on June 27, 2018 that unions could no longer collect mandatory “fair share” fees to cover the costs of collective bargaining. This means that you are not required to pay dues to a bargaining unit in addition to your LASPA dues.
HOWEVER, if you have CAPE insurance, you are required to retain ALADS or PPOA (whichever is your bargaining unit) in addition to LASPA or you will be dropped from the insurance.
