Becoming a LASPA Member

You can join online by clicking the sign-up form or over the phone at (888) 958-9998. Walk-ins are always welcomed as well.

LASPA members receive full and complete legal coverage for grievances, administrative, civil and criminal events as long as the incident falls under the course of their duties and scope of their job. We also offer 24-hour legal assistance sur ce site. Additionally, our members receive 30-days of payroll reimbursement at no extra cost. Please refer to our payroll reimbursement guidelines for further details.

LASPA truly cares about their members; this is why we offer an array of services that are beneficial to all of our members. LASPA members have the choice to utilize any of our panel attorneys for legal representation; unlike other unions, we offer payroll reimbursement for suspensions without pay. We also offer our members at an additional cost optional benefits that include, but are not limited to: POPA Credit Union; Life, Disability, Cancer insurance policies, etc.

Subject of Investigation

If you are notified by the Department that you are the subject of an investigation, immediately contact our office. In many cases we have members who feel intimidated by the situation and are unaware of their right to have an attorney present for the interview.  We emphasize the importance of having an attorney in attendance, to protect your legal rights.

Payroll Reimbursement

All reimbursements are sent by U.S Mail at the end of each month after the Board of Directors review your case to ensure the incident falls under the member’s course and scope of their job. If the incident is not covered, you will receive a letter indicating why.

Upon receipt of your final settlement letter from the Department stating you will be suspended without pay, contact our office immediately at (888) 958-9998.

You will need to submit your settlement letter and a copy of your 15th-of-the-month paycheck stub to our office via fax, mail, or in person deste site.

Things happen. Unintended consequences occur. That is why LASPA offers payroll reimbursement during suspensions without pay. Reimbursement applies for time periods of up to 30 days per year. With payroll reimbursement, our members can continue to pay their bills and provide for their families while situations are resolved.

Off-Duty Incidents

One significant benefit that all LASPA members receive is legal representation. For work-related incidents, all LASPA members can utilize our panel of attorneys for representation free of charge. If you are involved in an off-duty incident (e.i. DUI, car accident, fight, etc.), LASPA has attorneys that specialize in different areas of law (e.i. criminal defense, personal injury, etc.) that members can hire at a discounted rate. Attorney fees are very costly and can add up; why hire an outside attorney when you can utilize one of LASPA’s panel attorneys?

Yes! It is imperative that you advise your unit of assignment of any off-duty incidents. Failure to do so can have negative results.

Donations Request

The LASPA Board of Directors review all donation requests monthly. Once the donation is approved, our friendly staff will notify you directly. All donations are mailed out at the end of each month.

A month prior to your event, please submit your request to our office via fax, mail or in person. Please include a cover letter stating the purpose for the donation.
